That’s what it looks like if you believe the “league sources” cited in this LA Times article.
I, for one, thought Favre would come back for one last season simply because his last pass was an interception in the NFC Championship Game. That being said, I can’t begin to convey what a colossal mistake it would be if Favre made a comeback at this point. He played the majority of his career with the Packers, and to see him outside of that organization would just seem foreign. There’s no doubt he could still play the game, but he’s just not his mid-90’s self any longer. Any comeback he makes would only go to tarnish a great reputation.
Brett, you’re America’s quarterback. You are universally loved for your grit, determination, love of the game, and genuine nature. To come back after your tearful goodbye would seem fake and desperate. Let America remember you for your gutsy performances like the one the day after your father died. Let America remember the Super Bowls. Don’t leave us with the memory of a has-been who can’t let go peddling himself around the league…
All this being said, Favre’s agent is quite adamant about the rumored comeback being untrue.
